The motor home is exactly what we wanted. My husband wanted the 'motor home' part (in lieu of a travel trailer / 5th wheel)...we were set on a travel trailer with a separate kids room with quad bunks, but then he made the comment, something to the effect of 'crushing his dreams'. So...here we are 3 months later with a motor home we're about to set sail in. It has 2 bunk beds (with their own flip-down tv/dvd player combos above their bed, because really, what 2 year old and 4 year old doesn't absolutely need a their own personal tv with cordless headphones? Actually it seems ironic because we have agreed for them to never have a tv in their room), a U-shaped dinette so we can all eat at the table together, and very, very little cabinet / pantry storage...that wasn't so much a plus, but just a really great bonus. I love that we have no where to keep our silverware. That's ok. Our 2 year old especially will love that...she's pretty sure hands are made for eating chocolate pudding with anyway.
Actually the good does far outweigh the bad. I know it will be an adjustment for us all. I have scoured the internet trying to find other families travelling the country like we have planned to do, and I have found them. Kind of. We are apparently the only ones I have found though that are brave (dumb?) enough to travel with 3 kids under 5. At 4, 2, and 4 months ours are the youngest (with no older siblings to help out). But alas, hitting the road we are. We have a flexible, and tentative plan to head NE for the summer, South for the winter, and out West as it warms up again. It's wide open but as a die hard planner, if I didn't at least have an idea of our general plan it would drive me crazy.
We love travelling and the driving factor behind all this is really that the stars aligned for us. We are forever talking about all of the places we want to visit and things we want to do, and we realized we're probably never going to be able to see them all. Certainly not with our kids. Our kids are such little sponges right now too. They are learning so much and just able and WILLING to absorb it all.
It's going to be a crazy adventure, but it's going to be our adventure. Filled with ups and downs, no doubt, but every hill and valley will be a memory we will treasure. We look forward to discovering God's beautiful world he has created for us and leaving our little suburban bubble.
As my daughter says, "Bye, bye house, Hello WORLD!"
