Emmy decided she was done with her orange slices the other day so Maggie went to town on them. Sadly, we found out the hard way that she is allergic. She broke out in huge blister-like welts all over her face, arms, hands and legs. It was the saddest thing.
But wait, there's more. For the next two days she kept breaking out in these terrible hives off and on all over her arms, face, and legs. They primarily occurred when we went outside, and went away an hour or so after coming in, but they looked HORRIBLE! Poor thing. So we called the Dr. He prescribed Claritin and Voila! It seems to be working so far. It's been chilly and then nice, and then freezing cold, then chilly again, and then just downright BRRRRRRR, so we haven't been able to get her outside much since she started the meds, but so far, so good! And THEN, she broke out in a totally new kind of rash. It's awful! Just terrible. If you have a weak stomach, you really mustn't look...

Surprisingly, the Claritin worked for this too!
It was gone after only a couple of hours. (Thank God!)
On another note, despite the cold we have been doing a little bit here and there. The last two weeks in a nutshell:
We stayed at the Brookwood Inn in Rochester/Pittsford area. I LOVE Rochester. It's so much fun! A VERY kid-friendly town which is always a plus with me. Great museums, great parks and lots to do, and we even had some REALLY lovely days!
Rochester Science Museum (which we can get into FREE with our ASTC card!!!) is totally cool. We went there twice. We left early one time, because one of the kiddos was in a little bit of a bad mood (Emmy), but it worked out great because we got to go back on the weekend w/ Chadly and it was fun for the whole family.
I'll always be a LITTLE bit bitter that they didn't have these when I was a kid...
This, however, is timeless.
So is this. We like tents.
Obligatory Annie photo.
She doesn't do much. Cute is her niche.
It's my hubby's too. He does other stuff though too.
He's the Jelly to my Peanut Butter.
We're in the Finger Lakes now, which are really lovely.
They are a little bit reminiscent of Europe. Specifically Germany along the Rhine River (something everyone MUST see...especially if you like GOOD and uber Cheap wine!), however it's not quite as lovely. The wine is more expensive here and we have small kids now, so...perhaps we'll return in 20 years. Or go back to Germany. I vote Germany.
I have encountered a few friendly people here, but I'm finding, as a whole, that I do miss the mid-western hospitality that I'm used to. Perhaps I'm spoiled by common courtesies, but I have had a door or two slammed in the face of my 3 small children and myself. among other things incidences that I, myself, would deem as 'common courtesies'. People here, overall, aren't as friendly as they are in Indiana. Hoosiers are often apt to strike up a conversation about pretty much anything, smile at one another passing in the street or a doorway, and just show general common courtesies. I know that we are travelling to experience new people, terrain, and cultures, but it's just always much more pleasant to experience something with a smile or two along the way.
Moving on to Ithaca, NY, which seems to be a super-cool and happenin' town and the home to Cornell University. We soent our most exciting day yet here. Lots of fun and the highlight was Tauganauck Falls. So very beautiful and serene. This was the overlook. We drove to it. After this we had to hike to the lower falls.
Our first and ONLY family photo of the trip so far!
Our hike up to the falls was really great! A little muddy, but not too bad. Lots of fun, and exactly what we had pictured for 'Our Trip'.
The whole length of the falls is along a bed of solid rock. Incredible!
My cool hubby and super cool kiddos.
Little Bambino, Emmy J, and Mama hiking it up. Look out Falls...here we come!
Look to the right...that's my family. They are little, but they are there. I felt the mist from way back where..they got pretty darn wet. It was under 50 degrees.
After, we went across the street to a GREAT park!
Who's the King of the Mountain?
That's right.
That's MY man!
Uh, what's going on, guys? I can't SEE, but it SOUNDS fun...
(it was).
Cool Sciencenter in Ithaca!
Em's touched a SEA URCHIN!
Annie Ann being SuperCute, as always!
Best baby EVER!
Outdoor music center at the ScienCenter.
This was fun for everyone!
And Cornell. Really Lovely Campus. REALLY!
Established 1865, so some really great old architecture.
Established 1865, so some really great old architecture.
I would NOT, however, want to walk up all those hills in the wintertime.
See you down the road!
